Here’s a bit of cake. Well, a chocolate gateau with caramelised macadamia nuts and a ganache base. It took us about 10 minutes to order this in a cafe in a department store in Tokyo as the waitress could not understand my basic Japanese.

Here’s an amazing Bento box on a bullet train (shinkansen) in Japan. Perhaps I might show a few more boxes when I get the chance to. This amazing box lunch had a bit of everything, and it was like having a delightful gastronomical circus in my mouth!

Chocolate soufflé and ice cream anyone? From Holly’s Cafe in Seoul, South Korea.

Here’s some meat ready for BBQ somewhere in Seoul. This is what Korean BBQ is supposed to look like!

So here was one of our cheapest meals in Japan. It also happened to be our first meal in Japan. We ordered our food from a ticket machine, and then handed the ticket to the person behind the counter. 5 minutes later our delicious katsu-don (breaded pork cutlet on rice) arrived!

Hae mul pa jun, or a seafood pancake. This is extremely delicious, and is a must-eat if you are ever in Korea! There’s a little bit of egg in the batter that makes it like an omelette, yet it’s light and crisp, and contains spring onions and little bits of seafood. Delicious indeed! How I wish I were in Korea now!

This was chicken in black bean sauce (I think!) from our wanderings in Seoul. I don’t really remember where this was, but this restaurant was apparently famous for this dish! So the location is about a 10 minute walk to the big 5 way intersection near the Hyundai department store in Mapo-gu. Not very helpful I know, but sorry I don’t speak or read Korean unfortunately!

Korean rice porridge in Shinchon, Seoul, South Korea. This was definitely a highlight for us, the flavours were amazing!

A roasted chestnut cart on the streets near Shinchon (around the Hyundai Department Store), Seoul, South Korea. The warm chestnuts taste really great in cold weather!

Korean pastry chefs making buns (please correct me if I’m wrong!). I’m not sure if the guy on the left is talking about chest size, but to the left of the picture is red bean paste, and the other container on the table looks like it has a vegetable filling. The white globs must be the rice flour dough with the different fillings inside. This shot was taken in the Namdaemun Markets in Seoul.

Still on Jeju Island, South Korea. In Culture Cafe and this time it’s a Seafood Paella with fresh seafood from the island itself! Amazingly delicious yet again. Will I run out of adjectives soon?

This was a brilliant find we came across on Jeju Island, South Korea. This amazing cafe is called Culture Cafe, or something like that and features local produce in a modern package. Shown above is a pizza made with pork from the famous black pigs from the island. Amazingly delicious, or mashiso-yo!

Yet again in Hakone, Japan. Just a little bit outside Tokyo, we came across people barbecuing their own food on the street. A bit of advice about long queues in Japan: it does not necessarily mean that the food is awesome, it may just mean that the food is cheap!

So here’s part 2 of the ginormous feast that we were treated to. This was such a highlight, and I’m glad this is not part of a normal diet! Wow. Seriously!

My friend Hera gave us a massive treat in Busan. So here the massive Korean Emperor’s Feast that had about 20 courses! What a treat! I don’t know what all the dishes are, so feel free to tell me! And there are 23 photos in this set, so it will have to be split into another post. Needless to say, we were stuffed beyond our natural ability to eat!
